The department of Physics was established in 1981, even though B.Sc degree (vocational) course came into existence only in 1999. Knowing the significance and importance of the developments in the electronic world, Applied Electronics was chosen as the vocational subject.

  Enhancement of Learning Resources

There are three well-furnished classrooms and well-equipped laboratories with modern  equipments like computers, Cathode Ray Oscilloscope Pattern generators, A.F & R.F Oscillators, Digital Multimeters, Spectrometers etc.The department has a very good library with nearly 300 books. In the past years, eminent scholars like Dr. Gopinathan (Former Principal, SS College Kalady), Mr. Regi John (Divisional Manager, TELK), Prof. Sajan Menon, Prof. Jacob Thalian (Faculty of DIST), Prof. Jose P.J (Faculty S.H.College Thevera) have given lectures on various topics.

Clubs

The department has formed a quiz club to encourage and train the students to acquire deeper knowledge in the subject and to equip them to participate in quiz competitions. The department has also formed an electronics club. The main purpose of the club is to motivate the students to do innovative projects.

On-The-Job-Training Program

Students are given practical training in various fields like,   electronic equipment maintenance, multimedia etc.

Remedial Coaching

Weak students are identified on the basis of assessment and remedial coaching is conducted for them.

Extension Activities


The Physics students feel that they are the most gifted group of the society. The department has arranged various activities to make them aware of the great responsibility towards the society especially in the empowerment of women.

*    Seminar on environmental protection
*    Seminar on Naturopathy
*    Seminar on Prevention of Chikun Gunya
*    Free eye testing and blood group detection camp, which was organized jointly by NSS, Department of Economics,   OISCA  International and Amrutha Institute of Medical Science.

Future Plans

Organize National and State level Seminars
Set up a computer lab to give computer training to students of other departments
Planning to form a group of students to give coaching to school children so that Physics learning becomes  easier
